Angelina De Chavez

Angelina is an undergraduate researcher at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with interests in coral reef ecology, restoration, and conservation. As a 2026 JT-SURF Undergraduate Research Fellow at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, she investigated the design and material properties of engineered coral restoration substrates, including the use of slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS) to reduce biofouling and support coral restoration. Her research involved coral husbandry, substrate fabrication, PAM fluorometry, and 3D photogrammetry. She is interested in pursuing graduate research focused on coral reef ecosystems and developing approaches that support their conservation and restoration. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and exploring new cultures.
