Dr. Camilla Rinaldi

Originally from the Italian Alps, Camilla always knew she wanted to be a marine biologist. She earned a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences and an M.Sc. in Marine Sciences from the University of Milano-Bicocca, where her research focused on coral reefs, from laboratory-based molecular work to field studies on coral diseases, bleaching, spawning, and restoration in the Maldives and the Caribbean.
After a short period working as a guide for National Geographic Expeditions, she pursued a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences, Technology and Management at the Italian Institute of Technology, developing natural and bio-based drug delivery systems for underwater coral bleaching treatments.
Camilla first joined Scripps as a visiting student in 2025 and is now a postdoctoral researcher in the Coral Reef Ecophysiology and Engineering group, where she focuses on developing scalable technologies for coral bleaching mitigation. Outside the lab, she enjoys science communication, aerial silk, and climbing.
