M.Sc. King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia
B.Sc. Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), Mexico
Alexander is a postdoctoral researcher at the CRE Lab at UC San Diego. His current research focuses on developing coral biomaterials using 3D bioprinting technologies to prevent coral bleaching and create coral-mimicking microenvironments resembling natural coral tissue. He earned his Ph.D. and M.Sc. from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Bioengineering. His primary research involved creating bioinks and integrating them with 3D bioprinting technologies to produce biomaterials for regenerative medicine applications, such as cell-laden scaffolds for trachea regeneration and the 3D bioprinting of artificial coral bio-skin materials to support coral tissue regeneration. Alexander graduated from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM) with a B.Sc. in Biotechnology Engineering. He has worked in scientific research institutes in Mexico, including CINVESTAV and CIATEJ, focusing on biotechnology. He was selected to participate in the 2024 Voices of Tomorrow program by Global Biotech Revolution in Cambridge, UK. Additionally, he received the Silver Award at the 2019 iGEM competition in Boston, Massachusetts, and was recognized as one of the 100 Young Leaders in Biotechnology from Latin America in 2018 by ALLBIOTECH. Alexander aims to develop pioneering scientific innovations through biotechnology research that will benefit society.
